The Sindhu Darshan Festival, as the name says, is a celebration of River Sindhu, also known as the Indus. It is celebrated by the presence of a wide variety of cultural troupes from various corners of India. It is from the river Sindhu that India got its name. It is the cradle of Indian civilization. This ancient river is integral to our identity as a nation. The Sindhu Darshan Festival which takes place over three days every year is the perfect time to visit the remote regions of Leh and Ladakh.
Organized in Shey Manla, some 8 km from Leh, the festival begins with the Sindhu Yatra. The river Indus originates from the holy Mansarovar Lake and is considered a holy. So a journey to it is regarded as a sacred pilgrimage. The festival began in 1997 as an effort to promote national unity. Cultural troops from all over the country converge at Shey Manla for this three-day long festival. Traditional Ladakhi Buddhist prayer ceremonies inaugurate the Festival.
